“The Best Implementation I’ve Ever Experienced.”
The University of Pennsylvania’s GradGuard Tuition Insurance program is available to all student populations and requires no manual work.
The University of Pennsylvania has offered tuition insurance to its undergraduate students for the past several years. But recently, Gwendolin Randolph, Director of Student Accounts at UPenn, wanted to find a better program that required less manual work on the school’s end. Learning about GradGuard’s integration within TouchNet Bill+Payment made all the difference.
“The selling point for me is when they said, ‘This is actually something that can go into TouchNet. You don’t have to field calls, answer any questions. It’s just there for students to see within TouchNet,’” Randolph said.
Randolph said she was pleased no additional IT resources were needed on UPenn’s side to implement the program. GradGuard’s Tuition Insurance went live within TouchNet Bill+ Payment ahead of the Fall 2024 term.
“The whole process was very seamless and I was blown away that it was so hands off.”
Another one of the main reasons why UPenn went with GradGuard is all student populations can take advantage of the tuition insurance offer. Previously, only undergraduate students could purchase tuition insurance. With GradGuard, graduate and professional program students can also protect their investment.
Implementing GradGuard’s tuition insurance program was as easy as advertised, Randolph said. UPenn didn’t have any issues with students not being able to enroll for the fall term. Everything was self-explanatory for students and families, and they’re made aware in the portal that any questions or concerns can be directed toward GradGuard. Randolph adds that the addition of job loss of a tuition payer coverage was another major selling point for UPenn.
“It was the best implementation that I have ever experienced, and I’ve been on many implementations. I didn’t have to dedicate hours of doing an implementation where other projects would’ve led to something additional.”

BOTTOM LINE
UPenn promotes student success by offering tuition insurance to all student populations, including graduate and professional program students, in a seamless integrated offer within TouchNet Bill+Payment.
“Just knowing that GradGuard could connect automatically to TouchNet saved time on our end and focused our team to be dedicated somewhere else,” Randolph said.
GradGuard’s Tuition Protection Program promotes financial literacy by helping schools disclose its refund policy and can protect families from a financial loss if their student is forced to withdraw due to a covered reason.
